Response to accusations of leaning towards Israel

Badria said: “If we wanted Israel, we would have asked for it from the beginning,” reminding that the Druze stance in Sweida is based on a deeply rooted national heritage, and that talk of rapprochement with Israel aims to distort the image of the mountains and justify the siege and targeting the province has faced.

He added that the praise of Israel in his statement does not go beyond acknowledging a factual reality, as it was — according to him — the only party that responded to the humanitarian call during the siege, while no country expressed solidarity or even condemnation, and some even participated in the silence regarding what happened.

Internal unity despite critical voices

Regarding claims of internal disagreements within the National Guard, Badria denied the existence of real divisions, explaining that what is happening does not go beyond “a few individual voices,” which he described as “passing phenomena.” He affirmed that the people of the mountains are united around their leadership, and that the National Guard today represents “the sole guarantor of Sweida’s security and its borders.”

He said that the province, despite its wounds, is still capable of protecting itself, and that it “possesses enough resources and capabilities to live with dignity” if political and administrative independence is achieved. He emphasized that the goal is not isolation from Syria, but rather building a new relationship based on equality and mutual respect.
