Ankara, Damascus, and the Kurds: The Battle to Merge Politics and the Field

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent strong messages regarding the future of Syria, emphasizing that Ankara will not allow the country to be divided. He stressed that the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syrian state institutions represents a red line for Turkey, within a diplomatic framework aimed at preserving Syria’s territorial unity.

Meanwhile, the Kurds insist on their central role in combating ISIS, with the SDF announcing that it thwarted operations by the group and arrested members in Deir ez-Zor, highlighting the fragile security situation east of the Euphrates.

In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Dr. Samir Salha, a professor of international relations in Istanbul, explained that Erdoğan’s recent rhetoric differs from his previous statements, as it focuses on diplomatic channels rather than military threats.
