Details of the incident: Armed men assassinate a Syrian army member in Daraa.

Armed unknown assailants assassinated, on Tuesday morning, a member of the “40th Division” of the Syrian army inside his home in the Al-Lajat area of Daraa countryside in southern Syria.

Local news network Daraa 24 reported that unknown gunmen stormed the house of Wafi Ali Al-Yalla, known as “Abu Ali,” in the village of Karim Al-Janoubi, and opened fire on him directly, killing him instantly after being hit by several bullets in the chest.

The report added that Al-Yalla worked in livestock trading and belonged to the “40th Division” of the Syrian army, while the motives behind his assassination and the identity of the perpetrators remain unknown.

Earlier, on Sunday, a member of the internal security forces was killed and another injured during a raid on a house in the town of Qarfa in central Daraa countryside, which belonged to a former leader of an armed group in the governorate.

According to Syria TV, Daraa governorate is witnessing a wide spread of unlicensed weapons amid the security chaos left by the regime during its years of control over the area, and even before its collapse.

It was noted that after the deployment of public security forces in the governorate, many of its members were repeatedly targeted for assassination attempts. Armed clashes have also erupted between security forces and local armed groups, some of unknown affiliation.

The new government is seeking to impose control and dismantle these armed networks by sending military convoys to tension areas, pursuing the militants, and launching security campaigns aimed at seizing unlicensed weapons, in an attempt to restore order and end the chaos that Daraa has long suffered from, according to Syrian TV.
